New Patient Information

Thank you for choosing the Piedmont Avenue Clinic for your health care needs.

Our Oakland, California office is centrally located for most of the San Francisco Bay area. It is minutes from Piedmont, Berkeley, El Cerrito, San Leandro and Montclair, and also between the San Francisco Bay Bridge and the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. We are convenient to several bus lines (the 59, 11 and 57 lines) and are close to the MacArthur BART station. The practice is just a few blocks from freeways 580 and 24, located right on a commercial thoroughfare with metered, on street parking and a private parking lot a block away.

Allow yourself approximately 90 to 120 minutes for the initial visit. Please come in 5-10 minutes before your scheduled time to complete the patient intake forms. (You may also download and fill them out before hand) If you have any medical records, including x-rays and test results, please bring them.

Your visit will start with an in-depth interview consisting of numerous questions about your primary complaint and health history. Relevant questions about aspects of your lifestyle and health will be asked in order to help build up a complete picture and put your condition into a holistic context. This also assists in formulating a customized treatment plan for you.

During your treatment, you will lay in a comfortable position on a massage table. Rooms are private and warm. The insertion of the needles is generally painless and most people only feel a tapping sensation. Once the needles have been placed and you are comfortable, you will relax in a treatment room for about 20-30 minutes. You will be checked on to see that you are comfortable during that period. During this time, you may also be treated with the Photonic Stimulator and Chinese orthopaedic massage (Tua-Na). At the end of this time period, the needles will be removed. You may feel very relaxed or you may even have fallen asleep.

After the acupuncture treatment is over, you will meet the practitioner in the lab where Chinese herbs or supplements will be prescribed and a treatment plan and recommendations for follow up visits will be discussed. Many chronic problems may require 10 or more treatments before significant benefits accrue. However, you should see and feel an overall improvement in your health as your main symptoms improve.

Charges for all procedures are due and payable at the conclusion of your visit. Since so much time is spent with new patients, we would greatly appreciate it if you could give us plenty of notice if you need to cancel.
